Today’s Verse

John 8:31-32
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Today’s Thought:
Abide in His Word, so that The Truth will set us free .

Today’s Prayer:
Thank you for Your Word LORD. Thank you that Your Word is strong and powerful and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Help us today to abide in Your Word. Thank you that as we do this, we shall know Your truth, and Your truth is able to set us free. Amen.

Today’s Question for Reflection:
How will we abide in His Word so the The Truth will set us free?

This Weeks Memory Verse
Matthew 7:7-8
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.”

Today’s Verse

1 Corinthians 1:26-28
For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are,

Today’s Thought:
God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong

Today’s Prayer: Your grace and mercy is amazing LORD. That You would choose me to do Your will and be a part of Your purpose on the planet. You don’t choose the smartest tools in the shed. Help us to keep in mind our weakness and shortfalls, so that we would marvel in that You call us, despite and in spite of our foolishness. Be glorified in our weakness. May You be seen in our deficiency. Amen

Today’s Question for Reflection:
How will our weakness display God’s glory today?

This Weeks Memory Verse
Luke 9:23

Today’s Verse

Deuteronomy 30:19

I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live,

Today’s Thought:
I love it when the teacher gives the answer to the test

Today’s Prayer:                                                                                                                  As we start today, heaven and earth will witness our decisions. Nothing is hidden from You LORD. Every intention and motivation of our hearts is laid bare before You. Constantly there is the option of life and death, of blessing and curse. From the smallest choice, to the biggest decisions we have to make today, help us to always consistently choose life, so that Your Life would flow into every area of our life. Amen.

Today’s Question for Reflection:
How will we choose life today?

Today’s Verse

Joshua 24:15
And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

Today’s Thought:

But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD

Today’s Prayer:LORD we live in a generation of great idolatry and distraction. The gods of materialism and post modern relativism beckon us to lower our standards and compromise the way we raise our families and worship our God. Help us today to stand firm, and declare in the face of popular culture, that we, and those whom we are responsible for, will serve You and You alone. Amen.

Today’s Question for Reflection:
Who will benefit from your choice to serve the LORD today?

Today’s Verse

Matthew 7:13-14
“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.

Today’s Thought:

The way is hard that leads to life.

Today’s Prayer:Thank you LORD that You do not call us to go where You have not already been. You came into Your creation as a helpless babe, grew in obscurity and walked the road to Golgotha to die and bear upon Yourself the penalty of our sin. Thank you that You call us to this narrow gate of sacrifice and death to self, so that we would find true life. Strengthen us today to take the narrow road and so walk the path You walked . Amen.

Today’s Question for Reflection:
Will we be the few that find it?

Today’s Verse

John 1:43-45
The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Follow me.” Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”

Today’s Thought:

The Decision To Follow JESUS

Today’s Prayer:
Thank you for calling us to follow You LORD. The path of a disciple is the decision of humble obedience. You can use anyone and yet You have chosen us to be ministers of reconciliation. Help us today to hear Your voice and choose Your purpose above our pursuits. Empower us by Your Holy Spirit to respond as Philip did and follow You with a passion to proclaim You to others. Amen

Today’s Question for Reflection:
When Jesus says “Follow Me”, how will we respond to Him today?

Today’s Devotion Saturday Jan 21 2012

Today’s Verse                                          Genesis 11:5-7                                      And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of man had built. And the LORD said, “Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do. And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and there confuse their language, so that they may not understand one another’s speech.”

Today’s Thought:

One people, one language, one focus.

Today’s Prayer:
LORD there is so much power in unity. Thank you that You had grace on Your people to confuse their language before they totally destroyed themselves again. Thank you that at the day of Pentecost You sent Your Holy Spirit to birth Your church, fill Your people with power, unify us for Your mission, and then send us out to build Your Kingdom. Keep us from building monuments to ourselves. Unify us by Your Spirit to proclaim the glory of The King and His Kingdom .  Amen

Today’s Question for Reflection:
How do we stay one people, with one language on God’s mission?

Today’s Devotion Friday Jan 20 2012

Today’s Verse                                             Genesis 8:20-22                                          Then Noah built an altar to the LORD and took some of every clean animal and some of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar. And when the LORD smelled the pleasing aroma, the LORD said in his heart, “I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intention of man’s heart is evil from his youth. Neither will I ever again strike down every living creature as I have done. While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.”

Today’s Thought:

Heart felt worship is a pleasing aroma to the LORD.

Today’s Prayer:                                                                                                                  Thank you LORD for saving us. Just as Noah built an altar to You after the flood went down, because he knew You had saved him through the ark. Help us to build an altar to You in our hearts, that would offer to You sacrifice and worship, because we have been saved through the work of Christ on the cross. Let our lives be marked by the worship of Jesus, so that there would ascend to You, the sweet aroma of praise and devotion to The One who has rescued us.  Amen

Today’s Question for Reflection:
How do we keep bringing forth the pleasing aroma of worship to God?

Today’s Devotion Thursday Jan 19 2012

Today’s Verse                                              John 1:1-3                                                   In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Today’s Thought:
In the beginning was God. Father. Son. Holy Spirit

Today’s Prayer:                                                                                                                  Thank you LORD for being before the beginning. You are Sovereign and You are good. You stand outside of our world because You have no beginning and no end. You are The Creator, we are Your creations. Give us a revelation of Your majesty and greatness. All things were made through You and without You was not anything made. Help us to somehow grasp the splendor of You. Teach us to be in awe of You, because You are worthy of all praise and adoration. Amen.

Today’s Question for Reflection:
How do we gain a continuing revelation of God in our everyday walk with Jesus?

Today’s Devotion Wednesday Jan 18 2012

Today’s Verse                                              Psalm 40:6-8                                               In sacrifice and offering you have not delighted, but you have given me an open ear. Burnt offering and sin offering you have not required. Then I said, “Behold, I have come; in the scroll of the book it is written of me: I delight to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.”

Today’s Thought:

I delight to do your will…Your law is within my heart

Today’s Prayer:                                                                                                                  LORD You are not impressed with my sacrifice or my offerings. What You require of me is not the ‘going through the motions’, but rather the heart felt worship of You and the obedience to Your Word. Help me to know Your will and to delight in it. O wholeheartedly live my life according to Your commands. Write Your law within my heart so that I would not go astray. Holy Spirit do Your sanctifying work in our lives today. Amen.

Today’s Question for Reflection:
How do we delight to do Gods will and keep His law within our heart?
